The Song of the Lark, Part III

 

 

Chapter 1

 

 

 

Chapter 2

 While accompanying a fellow singer, Jessie Darcey, Thea gets into an argument with her.  Bower's notices that Thea doesn't admire or like the other singers he teaches.  Bowers is affended by the conversation with Thea and she leaves disappointed. (HG)

 

 

Chapter 3

 Thea admires the beauty of Panther Canyon. Thinking of past memories and inspirations. She imagines being one of the ancient people and reaches her definition of art through her comparison of the broken pottery, and the songs she sung.

 

 

Chapter 4

 Fred offers Thea a job with Mrs. Nathanmeyer as a soloist to earn fifty dollars. She and Fred go to the Nathanmeyer's the next night and Thea sings for Mrs. Nathanmeyer as an audition, and she is offered the job. Thea and Fred go out for a bit to eat, and when Thea returns home and goes to bed, she reflects on the evening as the happiest she'd had in Chicago. The chapter ends with a little history on Fred Ottenburg. [SM]

 

 

Chapter 5

 

Thea is very sick. We also find out how Thea truly feels about Fred. (D.W.)

 

 

Chapter 6

 

Fred invites Thea to spend the summer at his father's ranch in Arizona where she can visit Cliff-Dweller ruins. (E.C.)
